"I have been using these bags in a potty bucket scenario for just over six months now. First, know that this is off-label use and the manufacturer does not recommend these bags for use in composting toilets. So I'm not docking the score just because it doesn't work well for my scenario. But I still felt my experience would help people who are using the bags in the intended manner, too

As you might expect, "biodegradable" usually means "breaks down in water" so creating a waterproof container that breaks down in water is going to be difficult. Unsurprisingly, these bags "solve" that problem by being somewhere in the middle. They break down in water, but not super quickly. I have bags sitting in my compost pile that are 4 or 5 months old and they don't look appreciably different from when they were thrown on the pile. However, even having them lining the potty bucket for only a day or two, they will dissolve enough to start leaking. What's more, when they do start breaking down, the resulting substance is very syrupy, which then mixes with whatever liquid was doing the breaking down and you get a very viscous form of human byproducts. I still find it easier to empty the buckets this way, as opposed to no liner at all. But you do still need to rinse them out pretty good.

In any case, if you immediately bury these bags after use as they're intended, this isn't a problem. But if you're buying these bags to be biodegradable, then you probably still want to know how they perform in the ground after you bury them."
