not as wide as promised
"I specifically looked for three inch wide tape, which this claims to be, and rejected 2.75 inch wide tapes. This tape turned out to be only 2.75 inches wide. Required an extra strip for each box. Very disappointing."
Equal quality to a 'single-roll' purchase I'd just made, but at nearly twice the price...?

WHY I BROUGHT THIS ITEM IN FOR REVIEW…
As a past and current business owner that’s had shipping departments, I’m familiar with various packaging and shipping materials and machines, including ‘Reinforced Kraft Paper Shipping Tape.’
This item caught my eye because in my home shop I have a small shipping area where I tape up corrugated/paper boxes. This tape, by my experience, is the most efficient for corrugated; better than clear-film tape.
DO YOU NEED A DISPENSER FOR THIS TAPE…?
For nostalgic reasons, I kept one of my circa 1980s THREE-INCH manual tape dispensers from a previous business. I’ve kept it working with some minor repairs. (see attached photo) It shows its age but continues to advance the tape, wet the adhesive and cut to whatever length I need. And this roll of WOD tape fits right into the tape storage and feed area at the back of the machine. And therein is one of my points. This type of tape is best utilized if you have, at minimum, a dispenser that holds the roll of paper tape, passes it through a wetting station, which after the wetting, you cut and grab the ‘ready to use’ tape. Without some dispensing equipment, it can get messy. And frankly, that’s why many people use clear-film tape. The film doesn’t require much at all. And hand-dispensers are not that costly. But if you’re looking at ‘cost per foot’ and overall strength for your packaging tape, reinforced kraft tape is, in my opinion, the winner.
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS KRAFT TAPE….
• Cost per foot is the best way to measure overall value when shopping for kraft tape.
• Kraft Reinforced Tap is a commodity item and highly competitive in pricing.
• When measured, this tape (desc’d as THREE INCH) is actually 2-3/4” wide; typical.
• The water activated adhesive is ‘rubber based’ and best for corrugated/paper boxes.
• This tape uses fiberglass threads; be careful when shopping as there are non-reinforced tapes.
IS THIS A GOOD VALUE…?
Ironically, just a week previous I'd placed an AMAZON order for a single roll of another brand, but the very same tape. I examined both my purchased tape and this WOD vendored tape. And yes, they were the same width, (2-3/4”) and thickness with the same reinforcement fibers. However, my purchased roll was (375-ft.) and its cost per foot was ($0.034). The WOD tape reviewed here is ($0.055) per foot; nearly TWICE that cost. And again, I can see no difference in the tapes. That’s not consistent with good value, nor an item I could recommend. Unfortunately, this is a commodity product of equal attributes and quality, but extremely overpriced."
Water Needed
"Eco-Friendly Reinforced Gummed Kraft Paper Tape
It is my fault that I didn't read the "WATER-ACTIVATED" in the product name, but in my defense the product images shows a nice lady gently pressing tape down on a box, with nary a sink, washcloth, or special water-dispensing tape gun in sight that I can see. So. You have to use water with this tape. You are not going to want to lick it like an old-school envelope flaps. When you do wet and stick it, it's very soft and can be easily pulled up and reapplied for a while until it dries. While some people might consider that a plus in packing tape, I do not. I am sorry, because I do like the idea of eco-friendly tape.
