5 inches is overall size
"I was a little taken back when I opened the package and saw the little bowls the bottom part is only about 2 to 21/2 inches. I am not even sure they will hold a cupcake for his Japanese themed birthday party. They are very nice. I will use the rest for painting trays or dipping sauces. Or maybe a boat themed party."

"The quality of these are good but even though it says 5” I didn’t expect them to be so small that I really couldn’t use them for the cake at my wedding. I have a ton left over because I can’t find anything to use them for. Extremely tiny and not wide at all."
