"The Amazon picture makes these look flat, but they are the normal shape for plastic utensils (see my photo). They are not solid, they are thin with reinforcing at 90 degree angles. This is common in less expensive plastic sets.

I decided to sacrifice a fork for science. They are strong, but brittle. I put a lot of downward pressure on it. To my surprise it snapped at the neck of the fork, but the tines held strong. I did manage to finally break the tines, but it took a lot of pressure. I don't think breakage will be an major issue unless you are serving something really hard. Even then, you can just use the head of the fork as it is very strong."

"I want to be eco-friendly, but I do worry about quality when ordering eco-friendly products. I predicted this might be like eating off glorified cardboard so I was very pleasantly surprised at the sturdy hardy quality of the knives, forks and spoons. You wouldn't know just by using that this was such an eco-friendly product. It actually feels sturdier than some of the plastic-ware we have bought in the past. The first meal I used this for was chili. It didn't stain the spoon so I washed the spoon and put it back to use again (which makes it even better not to end up in the landfill after just one use. I'm not sure why but I thought a compostable product would fall apart with washing). It feels really comfortable in your hand. The spoon is a little narrower and deeper than what I am used to (with regular or plastic flatware). I don't totally love how eating from the spoon feels, but the deeper shape definitely helps it hold the food securely and the slightly narrow shape isn't a deal breaker for me. I have no problem recommending this for any potluck or other event. Just be sure to be careful when opening the box (I started opening it upside down and almost had it all fall out)."
